Some important regulations we follow on how to reduce the risk of exposure:
- Coronaviruses on surfaces and objects die naturally within hours or days. Warm temperatures and exposure to sunlight will reduce the survival time of the virus on surfaces and objects.
- Normal routine cleaning with soap and water removes germs and dirt from surfaces. It reduces the risk of spreading COVID-19 infection.
- Disinfectants kill germs on surfaces. By killing germs on a surface after cleaning, you can further decrease the risk of spreading infections. EPA-approved disinfectants are an important part of reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19. If the disinfectants on this list are in short supply, alternative disinfectants can be used (e.g., 1/3 cup chlorine bleach diluted in 1 gallon of water, or solutions containing 70 % alcohol). Chlorine bleach solutions will be effective in disinfecting for up to 24 hours.
- Store and use disinfectants responsibly and properly as indicated on the label. Do not mix chlorine bleach with other cleaning and disinfecting products. Doing so may cause fumes that could be very dangerous if inhaled. Keep all disinfectants out of the reach of children.
- Do not waste or stockpile disinfectants or other supplies. This can lead to shortages of appropriate products that others need to use in critical situations.
- Always wear gloves suitable for the chemicals you will be using when cleaning and disinfecting. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on the different environments and products used.
- Practice healthy 1.5m distance between people, use cloth face shields, and follow proper hygiene prevention practices, such as frequent hand washing and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (with at least 60 % alcohol) when soap and water are not available.
